S/Y Colona II
Specifications
The famous yacht COLONA II has been around for
many years. "Around", in this case, can be taken
literally as she has circumnavigated the world
twice. If you recognise her name it is probably
from one of the countless articles in the various
diving magazines that have featured owner Freddy
Storheil and his yacht over the last fifteen
years.
COLONA II has now been operating in the Mergui
Archipelago since 1997, we simply love the area's
beauty and the new discoveries one can make time
after time here. COLONA II always makes a point to
try new sites besides the ones already known. This
way some dive sites and places on islands have
been found we'd rather not reveal here, but which
are absolutely mind- blowing!
Having undertaken sail/dive charters for over 17
years now, Freddy knows what guests are looking
for: exciting new experiences, world class diving,
good food and a relaxing atmosphere on board.
The Yacht
COLONA II is a 17,5 m (55 ft) monohull steel
yacht, ketch rigged, built by Perry in the UK. She
takes a maximum of 8 guests who are accommodated
in 4 twin cabins and one double. The yacht is
air-conditioned throughout. The varnished teak and
mahogany interior creates a pleasant, romantic,
atmosphere. The saloon has a stereo and a video
system, so you can play back your efforts with the
camera. COLONA II's navigation station is fully
equipped with all modern electronics, for
communication there are VHF and SSB radio's.
Outside we find a roomy cockpit which offers shade
and shelter for the hot sun and the odd tropical
rain shower. The cabin roof and foredeck have
ample space for sunbathing or sleeping under the
stars.
The large shaded aft deck has plenty of space for
kitting up for the maximum of 6 divers, special
tank benches with incorporated gearlockers make
that there is no necessity of moving around with
cylinders or gear between dives. Between dives the
B.C.D's can remain on the tanks which are refilled
by the electrically driven Bauer compressor. This
compressor is situated below decks in the bow and
is so silent one simply does not hear it. Torches
and strobes can be recharged in the saloon or in
the cabins. A specially designed diveladder makes
entry and exit easy and the RIB tender facilitates
drift dives and is used for forays ashore. All
diving is under the guidance of a qualified
DiveMaster. Dive tuition, along PADI guidelines,
is possible but normally only on private-or full
boat charter, please inquire. Usually there are
2-3 dives per day and a night dive if so desired.
The Cruises
COLONA II undertakes 5- ,6-, and 8-10 day trips
throughout the Mergui Archipelago. They can go as
far Black Rock as in the North and Western Rocky
Island in the South ,also the fabled Burma Banks
can be visited.
On request Colona II will make cruises to the
Andaman Islands as well, minimum 10 days, please
inquire.
